Vapour Blasting Specialists

We specialise in quality metal finishes and use glass beads and water to produce a silky sateen finish on a range of materials.

We will take your parts and remove any grease or paint and repair any damage found before vapour blasting.

We will keep in close contact with the customer to advise. For work received by mail order, we will always contact the customer with price and delivery before any work commences.

We are specialist restorers and take care of the handling and processing of your parts to ensure that the parts we receive are the parts you receive back. Restored to the highest possible standard the materials will allow.

How It Works

Glass beads mixed with heated water and air are forced at high pressure to produce a soft finish. This none aggressive process and will not remove any material from the surface of the component. The water acts as a lubricant and cushions the impact as it strikes the surface. This produces a peening and burnishing effect giving the surface an even satin polished effect.

The aggressiveness of dry grit and bead blasting causes severe 90 degree ricochet that occurs smashing the media and tearing at the surface of the component. Slightly lessor with dry bead due to the media shape making a smother finish.

With vapour blasting the ricochet of the media is reduced to the cushioning of the water, the angle of the media is changed producing a lapping effect traveling across the surface giving an even satin polished effect. With no loss of material and keeping dimensional stability compared to the other two processes. Vapour blasting is easy to keep clean and with its none-reflective surface makes it an ideal finish for many applications.

The process is good on Aluminium, Brass, Bronze, Copper, Magnesium, Stainless Steel and Titanium and most none ferrous materials.

FAQ’s

We hope this answers some of your questions. please don’t hesitate to contact us at info@chromerestorationspecialist.co.uk if you have a question that is not answered below.

Yes, but we would not advise it! High pressure water and air will force the media in through the smallest of spaces particularly seals. Once inside the engine it will eventually destroy bearings, block oil galleries and rapidly wear our gears. Other companies may not tell you this!
Yes, but it will still get inside and work its way into the galleries. The best way is to completely dismantle the carburettor and then clean out the galleries after blasting.

No, vapour blasting is unlike dry blasting its more of a polishing or lapping process and could be described a burnishing. The water acts as a lubricant and alters the angle in which the media strikes the surface reducing the impact and material removal.

Most parts we will endeavor to turnaround within 5 – 10 working days.

In some cases we may be able to do them while you wait by prior appointment.

If the material is scratched dented or damaged vapour blasting will not cover it up, it will only put a uniform finish onto the surface. If you want all the marks removed we can polish it before blasting and it will give you a perfect result!

Dismantle the parts as far as you can and remove any paint or grease. If you can’t we can do it for you. But it may add to the cost?

Aqua blasting and vapour blasting is the same thing. Bead blasting is a dry process and more aggressive than vapour blasting.

They are two different processes vapour blasting fires water and glass bead at the surface while ultra-sonic cleaning fires shock waves and detergent at the surface.
